Mind Your Now respects your right to be forgotten. Our account deletion feature provides a secure, thoughtful process with safeguards against accidental deletion.

Overview

Our account deletion process features:

  • 30-day grace period to prevent accidents
  • Email confirmation for security
  • Complete data removal after grace period
  • Immediate deletion option if you're certain

The Deletion Process

Step 1: Request Deletion

  1. Go to SettingsData & Privacy
  2. Scroll to the bottom
  3. Click the red Delete Account button
  4. Read the deletion warning carefully

Step 2: Confirm Your Intent

In the deletion dialog:

  1. Review what will be deleted
  2. Check the acknowledgment box
  3. Type DELETE in the confirmation field
  4. Choose deletion timing:
    • With Grace Period (recommended)
    • Delete Immediately (cannot be undone)
  5. Click Send Deletion Email

Step 3: Email Confirmation

  1. Check your email for confirmation link
  2. Link expires in 24 hours
  3. Click to confirm deletion
  4. Choose final deletion timing

Step 4: Grace Period (if selected)

  • Account enters "pending deletion" status
  • 30 days to change your mind
  • Cannot access account normally
  • Can reactivate by attempting login

What Gets Deleted

Personal Data (Completely Removed)

  • ✅ Push notification settings

Household Data (Anonymized)

  • 🔄 Tasks remain but owner removed
  • 🔄 Grocery items persist anonymously
  • 🔄 Household membership removed
  • 🔄 Audit logs anonymized

What Remains

  • ❌ Shared household data (for other members)
  • ❌ Anonymous task history
  • ❌ Household continuity

Grace Period Details

During the 30-Day Grace Period

  • Account Status: Pending deletion
  • Access: Blocked (except for reactivation)
  • Data: Preserved but inaccessible
  • Emails: No notifications sent
  • Reactivation: Available anytime

How to Reactivate

  1. Try to log in normally
  2. See "Account Pending Deletion" message
  3. Click Reactivate My Account
  4. Confirm via email
  5. Account fully restored

After Grace Period

  • Automatic permanent deletion
  • No possibility of recovery
  • Complete data removal
  • Deletion confirmation email sent

Important Prerequisites

Before You Delete

  1. Export Your Data: Use Data Export feature first
  2. Transfer Household Ownership: Required if you own households
  3. Cancel Subscriptions: If you have any active plans
  4. Remove Integrations: Disconnect calendar accounts

Household Ownership

If you own households, you must:

  1. Transfer ownership to another member, OR
  2. Delete the household entirely

You cannot delete your account while owning active households.

Immediate Deletion Option

When to Use

  • You're absolutely certain
  • Privacy concerns require quick action
  • You've already exported data
  • No household ownership issues

How It Works

  1. Select "Delete Immediately" in dialog
  2. Type DELETE NOW to confirm
  3. Account deleted within minutes
  4. No grace period or recovery

Security Features

Email Verification

  • Prevents unauthorized deletion
  • Unique token expires in 24 hours
  • Secure confirmation link
  • Cannot be reused

Rate Limiting

  • 1 deletion request per hour
  • Prevents accidental multiple requests
  • Security against attacks

Audit Trail

  • All deletion requests logged
  • Timestamp of each action
  • Retained for 90 days
  • For security purposes only

What Happens to Shared Data

Tasks in Households

  • Task remains in household
  • Your name removed as creator/assignee
  • Task history preserved
  • Other members maintain access

Grocery Lists

  • Items remain in household lists
  • Creator information removed
  • Check-off history anonymized
  • List continues functioning

Household Membership

  • You're removed from all households
  • Member count updated
  • No trace of your membership
  • Other members unaffected

Deletion Confirmation

You'll receive emails for:

  1. Deletion Request: With confirmation link
  2. Deletion Scheduled: Grace period details
  3. Reactivation: If you cancel deletion
  4. Final Deletion: When complete

Can I recover my account after deletion?

  • During grace period: Yes, easily
  • After grace period: No, impossible

Can someone else delete my account?

  1. Go to Household settings
  2. Transfer ownership to another member
  3. Or delete household if sole member
  4. Then retry account deletion

  4. Check email for confirmation
