Today, we're excited to announce two powerful features that put you in complete control of your data: Data Export and Account Deletion with Grace Period. These features reflect our deep commitment to user privacy, data ownership, and building trust with our community.

Data Export: Take Your Tasks Anywhere 📦​

Ever wanted to analyze your productivity patterns? Switch to another tool? Or just keep a backup? Now you can export all your task data in multiple formats:

Export Formats Available​

  • JSON 📊 - Complete task data with all metadata for developers and power users
  • iCal 📅 - Import your tasks into any calendar application
  • CSV 📈 - Perfect for spreadsheet analysis and custom reports

What's Included​

Your export contains:

  • ✅ All active tasks with full details
  • ✅ Completed tasks (your achievement history!)
  • ✅ Archived tasks
  • ✅ Task metadata: priorities, categories, due dates, assignments
  • ✅ Recurrence patterns for repeating tasks
  • ✅ Household context for shared tasks

How It Works​

  1. Go to Settings → Data & Privacy
  2. Click Export My Tasks
  3. Choose your format and filters
  4. Receive an email when your export is ready
  5. Download securely within 7 days

Smart Features​

  • Flexible Filtering: Export all tasks or filter by status and date range
  • Rate Limiting: Up to 5 exports per day to prevent abuse
  • Secure Delivery: Unique download links that expire for your protection
  • Export History: Track all your exports with easy re-download

Account Deletion: Thoughtful by Design 🛡️​

We've reimagined account deletion to be both secure and forgiving. Our two-step process with a 30-day grace period protects you from accidental deletions while respecting your right to be forgotten.

The Smart Grace Period​

When you request account deletion:

  1. Email Confirmation Required 📧 - Prevents unauthorized deletions
  2. 30-Day Grace Period ⏰ - Your account enters "pending deletion" status
  3. Easy Reactivation 🔄 - Simply log in to cancel deletion
  4. Skip If Certain ⚡ - Option for immediate deletion if you're sure

What Happens During Grace Period​

  • ✅ All your data remains intact but inaccessible
  • ✅ You can reactivate anytime by logging in
  • ✅ No new data can be created
  • ✅ Household members retain access to shared data
  • ✅ After 30 days, automatic permanent deletion

Complete Data Removal​

When deletion is finalized, we remove:

  • Your account and profile information
  • All personal tasks and preferences
  • Calendar integrations and events
  • Push notification tokens
  • Authentication tokens
  • Personal schedules

Household Continuity​

To maintain household functionality:

  • Shared tasks remain but are anonymized
  • Household data persists for other members
  • You must transfer household ownership before deletion
  • Grocery items remain for household use

How to Get Started 🚀​

Both features are available now in your Settings:

For Data Export:​

  1. Navigate to Settings → Data & Privacy
  2. Find the Export My Tasks section
  3. Select your preferred format
  4. Check your email for the download link

For Account Deletion:​

  1. Navigate to Settings → Data & Privacy
  2. Scroll to Delete Account (red button)
  3. Read the warnings carefully
  4. Type "DELETE" to confirm
  5. Check your email for the confirmation link

Pro Tips 💡​

  • Export Before Deleting: Always export your data before account deletion
  • Check Household Ownership: Transfer ownership of any households you own before deletion
  • Use the Grace Period: Take advantage of the 30-day window if you're unsure
  • Keep Exports Secure: Download links expire after 7 days for your protection
