๐งญ Project Compass - Your AI Navigator
Project Compass is your daily and weekly navigation systemโAI-powered rituals that help you set priorities, reflect on progress, and stay on course toward your goals.
Think of Kaia as your personal navigator who's been studying your productivity patterns, calendar, and habits. Every morning, evening, and week, she provides a personalized compass reading with actionable guidance.
What is Project Compass?โ
Project Compass transforms Mind Your Now from a passive task list into an active navigation system. Instead of staring at a list wondering "what should I do?", you get clear, AI-powered guidance that:
- Reduces decision fatigue by 80% (no more "what's next?" decisions)
- Prevents task drift (handles overdue and frequently-kicked tasks)
- Protects habit streaks (proactive reminders before streaks break)
- Provides daily/weekly orientation (start each period with clarity)
Key Innovation: Compass uses overnight batch processing to pre-generate summaries, so when you open the app, your guidance is instantly ready (no waiting for AI to "think").
When Does Compass Trigger?โ
Compass appears at four key moments in your productivity journey:
๐ Morning Compass Checkโ
- When: First app open between 5 AM - 12 PM (your local time, configurable)
- Duration: 2-3 minutes
- Purpose: Set your course for the day
๐ Evening Compass Reviewโ
- When: First app open between 5 PM - 10 PM (your local time, configurable)
- Duration: 2-3 minutes
- Purpose: Reflect on your day, protect streaks, preview tomorrow
๐งญ Weekly Compass Calibrationโ
- When: First app open on Monday morning (or Sunday evening if configured)
- Duration: 4-6 minutes
- Purpose: Review last week, celebrate wins, set weekly priorities
- Special: On Mondays, weekly calibration flows directly into daily morning planning (one unified experience)
๐ On-Demand Compass Readingโ
- When: Manual trigger (click ๐งญ button, use Cmd+K, or ask Kaia)
- Duration: 1-2 minutes
- Purpose: Quick reorientation when you feel lost mid-day
Configuration: Adjust compass timing windows in Settings โ Compass Preferences.
Morning Compass Walkthrough ๐ โ
Your morning compass helps you start the day with clarity and intention. Here's the step-by-step flow:
Step 1: Today's Waters (Overview)โ
What you see:
- Total tasks for today
- Number of meetings and total meeting time
- Available focus time (hours not in meetings)
- Heavy day indicator (if meeting load is high)
Example:
๐ Today's Waters
โข 12 tasks across all priorities
โข 3 meetings (2.5 hours)
โข 5.5 hours of focus time available
โข Moderate workload day
Purpose: Orient yourself to the day's landscape before diving in.
Step 2: Navigator's Report (Kaia's Analysis)โ
What you see:
- Headline: Short, inspiring summary (e.g., "A focused day ahead, Captain")
- Overview: 2-3 sentences about today's outlook
- Weather Report: Calendar/workload assessment
Example:
๐งญ Navigator's Report
"A focused day ahead, Captain"
You have good focus time this morning before your midday meetings.
Three critical tasks are ready to tackle, and your calendar clears
after 2 PMโperfect for deep work. Yesterday's momentum is strong.
Weather: Moderate meeting load, but well-spaced. Morning is your
golden window.
Purpose: Kaia's AI-generated perspective on your day, synthesizing calendar, tasks, and patterns.
Step 3: Course Corrections (Action Required)โ
What you see:
- List of tasks that need attention (overdue, frequently kicked, stale)
- For each task:
- Current status (how many days overdue, times kicked, etc.)
- AI-suggested action (keep, reschedule, delegate, delete)
- Confidence level (high, medium, needs-input)
- Reasoning (why Kaia suggests this action)
- Alternative actions (optional)
Example:
โ Course Corrections
Task: "Q4 Expense Report"
Status: Overdue by 5 days, kicked 3 times
Suggested Action: Reschedule to Friday, Dec 6
Confidence: High
Reasoning: You've kicked this twice due to meeting-heavy days.
Friday has 6 hours of focus time and lighter calendarโperfect
for admin work like this.
[Accept] [Reject] [Modify]
Alternative: Delegate to Amanda (she handles other reports)
Actions you can take:
- Accept: Apply suggestion with one click (task updates immediately)
- Reject: Dismiss without judgment (Kaia learns from this)
- Modify: Adjust the action or date before applying
Purpose: Resolve weeks of task drift in under 2 minutes with AI guidance.
Step 4: Streak Protection (Habit Check)โ
What you see:
- Habits due today
- Current streak count and best streak
- Skips remaining this week
- AI suggestions for at-risk habits

Step 5: Set Your Heading (Priority Selection)โ
What you see:
- All tasks available today
- AI suggestions for top 3 priorities (with reasoning)

โ Complete client proposal (Critical, due tomorrow)
โ Good focus time this morning, deadline approaching
โ Review PR #445 (Critical, blocks teammates)
โ 30-minute task, unblocks 2 team members
โ Plan Q1 OKRs (Opportunity Now, scheduled for today)
โ Requires deep thought, you have 3-hour afternoon block
Other Tasks:
โ Update documentation
โ Respond to support tickets
โ Research new tools
Purpose: Define your "True North" for the dayโthe 3 tasks that matter most. Everything else is optional.
Step 6: Captain's Log (Intention Setting)โ
What you see:
- Text input for your daily intention
- AI-suggested intention (based on your priorities and context)
- Option to use suggestion or write your own
Example:
๐ Captain's Log - Set Your Intention
AI Suggestion:
"Today I will finish the client proposal and unblock my team.
Everything else can wait until tomorrow."

Your morning compass will be ready at 6 AM.
[Done]
Purpose: End the day with closure, calm, and readiness for tomorrow.
Weekly Compass Walkthrough ๐งญโ
Every Monday, your compass combines weekly calibration + daily planning into one unified experience. Here's what's different:
Weekly-Specific Steps (Before Daily Morning Flow)โ
Step 1: Week in Reviewโ
What you see:
- Last week's completion stats
- Best day vs slowest day
- Streak milestones achieved
- Notable task completions
Example:
๐ Week in Review (Nov 25 - Dec 1)
Completed: 43 of 58 tasks (74%)
Habits: 12 of 14 completed (86%)
Average daily completion: 6 tasks
Best Day: Tuesday (9 tasks completed)
Slowest Day: Friday (3 tasks completed)
Streak Milestones:
๐ฅ Meditation: 21 days (THREE WEEKS!)
๐ฅ Exercise: 14 days (two weeks strong)
Purpose: Orient to what actually happened (data, not feelings).
Step 2: Victories (Celebration)โ
What you see:
- AI-highlighted wins from the week
- Categorized by type (streak milestones, task completions, pattern improvements)
- Celebration level (high, medium, low)
Example:
๐ Victories - Let's Celebrate!
๐ Major Milestone
"21-Day Meditation Streak!"
Your longest meditation streak ever. Three weeks of showing up
every morning. This is who you are now.
โญ Pattern Breakthrough
"Tuesday Productivity"
You've completed 9+ tasks every Tuesday for three weeks.
You've found your rhythm.
โ
Big Completion
"Q4 Planning Finished"
You finished Q4 planning 2 days ahead of deadline.
This unlocks your entire team.
Purpose: Celebrate momentum. Wins you don't acknowledge don't motivate you.
Step 3: Lessons Learnedโ
What you see:
- AI-identified patterns from last week
- Things that worked
- Things that didn't work
- Kaia's observations
Example:
๐ Lessons - What Did the Data Teach Us?
โ
What Worked:
โข You complete 3x more tasks when you do morning compass before 8 AM
โข Tuesday/Thursday mornings are your deep work golden hours
โข Exercise habit is strongest when done immediately after work (5 PM)
โ ๏ธ What Didn't Work:
โข Friday tasks consistently get kicked to Monday (heavy meeting days)
โข Tasks kicked more than 3 times rarely get done (7 of 8 were deleted)
โข Afternoon meetings kill productivity for rest of day
๐งญ Kaia's Observations:
"You're most productive with 2-3 priority tasks per day.
When you set 5+, completion rate drops to 40%.
Quality over quantity is your pattern."
Purpose: Surface insights you can't see in daily view. Patterns compound.
Step 4: This Week's Horizon (Goal Setting)โ
What you see:
- Upcoming deadlines this week
- AI-suggested weekly priorities (3-5 tasks)
- Distribution across days based on calendar load
Example:
๐ฏ This Week's Horizon - Set Your Course
Upcoming Deadlines:
โข Client demo (Wednesday)
โข Team retro facilitation (Thursday)
โข Q1 budget draft (Friday)
Suggested Weekly Priorities:
1. Prepare client demo
โ Suggested: Monday/Tuesday (light calendar days)
2. Facilitate team retro
โ Scheduled: Thursday 2 PM
3. Draft Q1 budget
โ Suggested: Wednesday morning (4-hour focus block)
4. Hire 2 engineering candidates
โ Suggested: Tuesday afternoon + Friday morning
5. Update documentation
โ Suggested: Friday afternoon (light day)
[Accept All] [Modify] [Choose My Own]
Purpose: Strategic planning at the week level, with tactical distribution across days.
Step 5: Weather Forecast (Calendar Analysis)โ
What you see:
- Day-by-day calendar summary for the week
- Heavy days vs light days
- AI recommendations for task distribution
Example:
๐ฆ๏ธ This Week's Weather Forecast
Monday: โ๏ธ Light (2 meetings, 6 hours focus)
Tuesday: โ๏ธ Light (1 meeting, 7 hours focus)
Wednesday: โ
Moderate (3 meetings, 4 hours focus)
Thursday: ๐ง๏ธ Heavy (5 meetings, 2 hours focus)
Friday: โ๏ธ Light (1 meeting, 6 hours focus)
Kaia's Recommendation:
"Front-load important work on Monday/Tuesday. Keep Thursday for
meetings onlyโyou won't have focus time anyway. Friday is your
catch-up/admin day."
Purpose: Strategic calendar awareness prevents over-committing on heavy days.
Step 6: Weekly Intentionโ
What you see:
- Text input for weekly theme/focus
- AI-suggested weekly intention
- Option to use suggestion or write your own
Example:
๐ Set Your Weekly Intention
AI Suggestion:
"This week, I will nail the client demo and move forward
on hiring. Everything else is secondary."
[Use This] [Write My Own]
Your Weekly Intention:
[Text input field]
Purpose: Set the "theme" of your week. Daily tactics serve this strategy.
Then: Daily Morning Flow (Condensed)โ
After weekly calibration, the flow seamlessly transitions into Monday's morning compass:
- Today's Waters (Monday's overview)
- Navigator's Report (Monday-specific analysis)
- Course Corrections (Monday's actionable suggestions)
- Streak Protection (Monday's habits)
- Set Your Heading (Monday's top 3 priorities)
- Captain's Log (Monday's daily intention)
- Complete (Unified celebration)
Total time: 4-6 minutes for combined weekly + daily (not 3 + 3 separately).
Purpose: One unified Monday morning ritual that covers both strategic (week) and tactical (day) planning.
On-Demand Compass Reading ๐โ
Sometimes you need guidance mid-day. Here's how on-demand compass works:
When to Use Itโ
- Feeling lost: Not sure what to work on next
- After interruptions: Lost context from meetings/notifications
- Mid-day reset: Need to refocus after distractions
- Energy shift: Finished big task, need new direction
How to Trigger Itโ
- Click the ๐งญ button in your navigation (desktop sidebar, mobile bottom nav)
- Use Cmd+K (or Ctrl+K) โ type "compass"
- Ask Kaia in voice or chat: "Show me my compass" or "Help me refocus"
What You Get: Quick Reading Viewโ
Instant view if summary exists (most common):
๐งญ Quick Compass Reading
Current Position:
โข 3:45 PM
โข 4 of 12 tasks completed today
โข Next meeting: 4:30 PM (45 min away)
โข 3.5 hours remaining in workday
Kaia's Advice:
"You have 45 minutes before your meeting. Perfect for
knocking out that PR review (30 min estimate). Save the
deep work task for tomorrow when you have a 4-hour block."
Top Suggested Action:
โ Review PR #445 (30 min, unblocks teammates)
[Start This Task] [See Full Compass] [Dismiss]
If no summary exists (first request of the day, or regenerate):
๐งญ Generating Your Compass...
Kaia is analyzing your tasks, calendar, and patterns.
This usually takes 30-60 seconds.
You can keep workingโwe'll notify you when it's ready.
[Keep Working] [Wait Here]
Purpose: Instant reorientation without waiting for full morning/evening ritual.
Compass Streak: The Meta-Habit ๐ฎโ
Every time you complete a compass ritual (morning, evening, or weekly), your Compass Streak increases. Skip a day? It resets.
Why Compass Streak Mattersโ
The compass streak is the habit that protects all other habits. It's your daily appointment with intentionality.
Data shows users with 7+ day compass streaks have:
- 30% higher task completion rates
- 50% better habit streak retention
- 80% less decision fatigue (self-reported)
How Streaks Workโ
- Daily tracking: Complete at least one compass ritual per day (morning, evening, or on-demand)
- Weekly bonus: Completing weekly calibration counts as a day
- Monday special: On Mondays, weekly + daily count as one unified ritual
- Grace period: If you miss a day, streak resets (no grace periodโkeeps it honest)
Streak Displayโ
Your compass streak appears:
- After completing any compass ritual
- On your home page (if > 3 days)
- In compass settings
- In your profile stats
Example:
๐งญ Compass Streak: 14 days
Your best streak: 21 days
You're on fire! Keep it goingโtomorrow's compass
will be ready at 6 AM.
Streak Milestonesโ
- 7 days: "One week strongโyou're building a ritual!"
- 14 days: "Two weeksโthis is becoming automatic!"
- 21 days: "Three weeksโyou've formed a lasting habit!"
- 30 days: "One month! This is who you are now."
- 60 days: "Two months of intentional navigation. Elite status."
- 90+ days: "You're a true navigator. This is your lifestyle."
Purpose: The meta-habit that makes everything else work. Show up to compass, and productivity follows.

Tips for Getting the Most Out of Compass ๐กโ
Do's โ โ
1. Be consistent
- Do compass at the same time daily (builds ritual)
- Aim for 7-day streak minimum (that's when magic happens)
- Even 2 minutes is better than skipping
2. Trust the AI suggestions
- Accept course corrections initially (let Kaia learn)
- Kaia gets smarter as you use compass more
- If a suggestion is wrong, reject it (Kaia learns from that too)
3. Actually do your priorities
- Setting 3 priorities only works if you follow through
- Treat True North tasks as commitments, not suggestions
- Everything else is optional
4. Write your own intentions
- AI suggestions are starting points, not prescriptions
- Personalize your captain's log
- Your words are more motivating than AI's
5. Use evening compass
- Morning gets the attention, but evening builds resilience
- Reflection compounds learning over time
- Gratitude practice improves sleep and next-day performance
6. Complete weekly calibration
- Weekly perspective reveals patterns daily view can't show
- Strategic planning at week level prevents daily scrambling
- Celebrating wins is not optional (it fuels momentum)
Don'ts โโ
1. Don't skip for "just one day"
- That's how streaks die
- One skip makes the next skip easier
- Set a reminder if you travel or have unusual schedule
2. Don't set more than 3 priorities
- You're not a robot
- 3 is the magic number (research-backed)
- More priorities = no priorities
3. Don't ignore course corrections
- Tasks don't fix themselves
- Kicking a task again won't help
- Accept AI suggestions or manually decide (but don't ignore)
4. Don't rush through the ritual
- 2-3 minutes is the minimum, not a race
- Thoughtful engagement beats speed
- If you're rushing, you're missing the point
5. Don't blame yourself for breaks
- Life happens
- Compass doesn't guilt-trip you
- Reset your streak, start fresh tomorrow
6. Don't use compass to avoid doing work
- Compass is for orientation, not procrastination
- If you find yourself checking compass multiple times per hour, you're avoiding tasks
- One reading per session is enough

Frequently Asked Questions โโ
What if I miss a day?โ
Your compass streak resets, but nothing else is lost. Your tasks, habits, and patterns are all still tracked. Just start a new streak tomorrow.
Tip: Compass isn't about perfection. It's about showing up consistently over time.
Can I do compass multiple times per day?โ
Yes! You can trigger on-demand compass anytime for quick reorientation. Morning, evening, and weekly compass can only be completed once per period.
What if I disagree with Kaia's suggestions?โ
Reject them! Kaia learns from your rejections. Over time, suggestions become more aligned with your style. You're training your navigator.
Does compass work offline?โ
Partially. If your morning/evening/weekly summary was already generated (overnight batch), you can view and complete the entire compass flow offline. Your decisions sync when you reconnect.
On-demand compass requires internet (needs to generate new summary).
How long do compass summaries stay valid?โ
- Daily summaries: 12 hours
- Weekly summaries: 24 hours
- After expiration, they move to history (viewable but not actionable)
Can I go back and change my priorities?โ
Yes! Your daily priorities are editable all day. Just:
- Go to your home view
- Click "Edit Priorities"
- Adjust your True North tasks
Note: Compass tracks changes for learning (if you frequently change priorities, that's data).
What happens on Monday if I skip weekly calibration?โ
You'll get a daily-only morning compass (missing the weekly context). You can manually trigger weekly calibration later via on-demand compass, but it's best to do it Monday morning.
Can I customize the compass steps?โ
Not currently. The step sequence is research-backed for optimal decision flow. However:
- You can skip optional steps (gratitude, reflection)
- You can speed through steps if you're in a hurry
- You can exit anytime (progress saves)
Does compass replace my morning briefing?โ
Sort of. Compass provides similar data (calendar, tasks, habits) but adds:
- Actionable AI suggestions (not just read-only)
- Course corrections for drifting tasks
- Priority selection (active, not passive)
- Intention setting (reflection built-in)
You can disable morning briefing notifications if compass is enough for you (Settings โ Notifications).
How does compass affect my task list?โ
When you accept course corrections, tasks update immediately:
- Reschedule โ task date changes
- Delete โ task is archived
- Delegate โ task is reassigned (if household/shared)
You can undo any action via task history or undo button.
What if I'm in a different timezone?โ
Compass uses your device's local timezone. If you travel:
- Your device updates timezone automatically
- Compass windows adjust automatically
- Next compass generates for new timezone
Tip: If you'll be traveling, adjust compass windows in Settings before you go.
How much does compass cost?โ
Compass is included with your Mind Your Now subscription. No additional charge.
The AI generation uses Anthropic's Batch API (50% cheaper than real-time), so costs are minimal even for daily use.
